Happy Kid

so after months of not updating here due to my horrible stubborness and love for livejournal, i’m finally updating here again! why? because shanghai… actually a good chunk of china blocks sites such as livejournal and flickr. SO i’m updating my trip from here or as matt helped me pin up “THE GREAT FIREWALL OF CHINA”

arrived in shanghai yesterday, got picked up and went directly to din tai fung, perhaps the best siu lung bao place ive ever eaten at. mmm. and the veggies are sooo colorful and yummy! after dinner i went back to my parents place and CRASHED. and by crashed i mean i slept at 9pm and woke up ten-eleven hours later. anyways, most of the day was spent at home helping my mom unpack and hang up photo frames on the wall. plus setup my dad’s home entertainment system.

now for the fails…

the local isp setup all the internet connections in this condo. everything works fine, i can access the internets on my lappie. however nothing was encrypted or filtered, so i went to setup the router… EVERYTHINGS IN CHINESE >_< i fail the americanized white washed me failed horribly. i had to have my mom stand over me and tell me what everything was. how can she translate what WEP passwords and mac filtering mean in chinese when she doesnt even know what it is in english. haha. anyways, i switched the router to the US one that we bought before and now everythings fine.

my parents have hired this lady to come cook and clean for them twice a week. anyways, she came today, with a live chicken and fish to cook for dinner. everything was fine and dandy, until she called my mom into the kitchen. they were jabbering something in mandarin, then my mom called ME into the kitchen. the lady was explaining to my mom that she got a pregnant chicken O_O. yes... PREGGERZ! she cut the chicken open and pointed at the UTERUS. pulled the UTERUS out and then pointed out that therez still an EGG INSIDE O_O!!! she pulled the egg out of the uterus, then put it back in the uterus to show it :O GAH! like i know thats FOR REAL how chickens lay their eggs and shit, but GAH!!!!!! i dont wanna see it when im gonna eat that chicken. haha! she then proceeded to ask my mom if she wanted to eat the uterus. lets just say me and my mom were both shouting "BOO YAO!" (which means no).

my mom setup a hair appointment for me as well since she thought my hair was too long. i always question my mom before going to new hair cut places, cuz the places she goes to has lots of gossipy chinese ppl who want to STYLE the fuck outta hair. but she reassured me this dude was good, doesnt really talk, and cuts hair well. so we head over to the place, and this BOY... well he looked young to me... anyways he washes my hair and shit, and asks me what hair style i want. and im like the usual plain trim off 2 inches and layer it. he said its boring and should part my hair to the side with semi bangs and that way ill look "ker ai" (cute). PFFFT i was like I DONT WANNA LOOK CUTE JUST TRIM MY HAIR >_< then he continued to say thats what girls from china cut their hair like, and even though im american i am chinese so i should have a chinese hair cut. and again im like PFFFFFFFFT FUCK THAT, with my mom translating of course. haha! i think she censored what i said though. anyways i felt like i was having a heart attack cuz this guy was NOT listening to what i was sayin and was throwing these japanese hair cut books at me and pointing out that my head is POINTEY. fuck that. anyways the main hair cutter dude finally came and did my hair, and he was cool... made it nice or whatever i dont really care haha. but ugh it was such a lame part of the day. getting a hair cut should NOT be that difficult.

its been cold and rainey here in shanghai. however walking into the malls, seeing SHITLOADS of electronics, and then walking through food sections make me UBER happy. in the food section of this one mall i got uber yummy coconut milk drink, some beef/pork/chicken jerky, AND AND AND at the bakery i got me some sugar toast, sponge bread, AND AND AND BACON CHEESE BREAD MMMM *droool* BACON!

anyways this is all in one day. SO ill have plenty more to say in the next few weeks but for now tata!
